Samurai Callout Sheet by Seth Erwin

With Zen, this would be my 2nd project where I had the opportunity on being responsible for the look development of the main character of the short. I would be responsible for the Modeling of the hat in Autodesk Maya and Surfacing of the character.
Using grunge masks, references of worn metal, and following the callout sheet provided to me I was able to finish the look of Sammy the Samurai using Substance 3D Painter.

Modeling & Lookdev - Komainu Statue

The Komainu Statue would be my first time modeling organically outside of Maya and the first I'm having an asset I create be very close to the screen, so getting it to look very detailed was a must. Using Nomad Sculpt I would use primitives such as tubes and spheres to create the initial shape of the statue. Actual statues are made using subtractive methods, so I followed a similar process once I remeshed all the primitives together. I would then go to Maya to retopologize the sculpt I made and bake the high poly sculpt that I had from Nomad Sculpt on top of the lower poly one in Substance 3D Painter.
